2026 - Helena. Houses. by AABE
Year of construction : 2000
Location : Spain
Floor area : 1.200 m2
The Casa Helena has been built in the hollow of a valley and it reaches out towards
the sea.
Three successive terraces enclose the living areas, which are completely open
to the surroundings.
The exterior is intentionally immaterial: large sliding windows between the
horizontal platforms constitute the boards and roof tiles.
The structure starts with the interior of the building and then organises
itself around a succession of different living spaces.
A massive wall, erected over three floors, is perforated by a few very narrow
vertical openings: this means that the house is firmly anchored to the rock.
As you enter the various spaces of this house, the importance of the way the
light falls becomes clear.Ponds, terraces and swimming pools make up the
foreground of this site: this is the only real decoration in this house.
